The sculpture is over six feet tall, made of foam, acrylic medium, plaster, resin and over ten pounds of glitter. The title refers to the United States Military Budget for 2011-2012.
The dazzling quality of craft glitter is uniquely compelling. I began working with this irresistible material because of its association with joy and optimism and its reflective colored light. Observance of the 10-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan in September 2011 provided inspiration to complete these larger-than-life-size figures, juxtaposing material with meaning.
